Ferrari is looking for the reasons for DRS's "very big" advantages from Red Bull, according to team head Fred Vasseur. |
RB19 Red Bull has dominated the race field so far in 2023, with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez claimed a comfortable victory in the first three rounds of the season.
One of the power of RB19 compared to other cars is its extraordinary speed in a straight line, especially when their Drs is active, which is highlighted when Verstappen easily passes Mercedes Lewis Hamilton when charging in front of Saudi Arabia.
Verstappen noted the difference in speed of more than 20 km/hour when he easily passed Hamilton to lead in Australia, while his teammate at Red Bull, Perez, set the highest speed of the race in 341 km/h.
Red Bull's rear wing design and its clear advantage made the rivals in Pit suspicious, one of which was Vasseur from Ferrari, who was looking for reasons for his big excellence in Drs.
"Red Bull has a big impact on Drs, bigger than anyone," Vasseur said. "And we must understand how they can do things like that.
"They do something different, and they must do something better."
One of the main objectives of Ferrari during winter is to make the 2023 car faster on the straight road, and Vasseur recognizes the team hoping to cover the speed deficit of a straight line more than the Red Bull.
"I think the gap might be bigger last year," he said. "We expect a little more compensation, but last year the difference was greater.
"Now we certainly still have room for improvement in this field. They do something different and definitely do something better. But we are working on it."
